Short feature list

The test equipment is first and foremost developed to satisfy the need of testing cyclic atmospheric corrosion with a good regulating accuracy. For normal test condition above room temperature a regulating accuracy is better than, for the relative humidity ±3 %RH, and for the temperature the accuracy ±0.6 °C, in sections with constant conditions.

  • 50 different pre-programmed tests are possible to store in the built-in regulator. The test cycles is prepared in a normal PC and transferred to the regulator with an USB-RS485 interface adapter.
  • The “rain” solution is automatically mixed by the equipment itself.
  • A logger software on a PC can, with an Ethernet connection to the cabinet, give actual running data as well as stored data which can be provided as Excel files
  • The maintenance need of the test equipment is very low.
  • The climate and drying up conditions over the whole test plane, 2 m2 is uniquely even.

Fourteen unit step work operations are included in test equipment setup as follows:

1. Climate (humidity and temperature control)
2. Synthetic “rain” of salt solution (Sodium chloride) where the pH can be regulated
3. Drying of the Chamber and samples by condensation drying out the surplus water
4. Temperature control only (running without humidification)
5. When raining, amount of rain high or low
6. Extra function 24 V 1 on relay
7. Extra funktion 24 V 2 on relay
8. Extra function 24 V 3 on relay
9. Stand by climate
10. No climate, no regulation

Installation requirements

Compressed air
The compressed air should have a pressure of minimum 5.5 bar pressure. The air consumption is 0.24 m3/min or less. The compressed air should be clean from dust particles and oil sediments and dried from water (dew point below 3 °C). The compressed air should be of class 4 or better according to ISO 8573-1.

Required electricity outfit is 400 Volt with tripod, ground and neutral, with 3*16 A fuse. Earth fault breaker is mandatory to use, can be provided as an extra item. The mean electrical effect used 1,35 kW.


Clean deionised water or reversed osmosis water or similar with a conductivity of less than 5 µS. The water must have a pressure of min 3.5 bar and max of 4.5 bar. Consumption depends on the test method. When raining a consumption of app.110 litres per hour for a period of 15 minutes is necessary for the Volvo methods. Within a normal climate cycle approximately 1 litre per hour is needed. For the salt fog methods less than 15 litres per hour is needed during the downfall sections.

An outlet that can take the used a water flow containing mainly 0,5-1% of slightly acidified sodium chloride water solution. The drain should be placed in connection with the Climate Chamber unit, preferably behind a line that could be described as the centre line in the longitudinal direction, see diagram below. If drainage is not a hand nearby a drainage pump unit can be provided as an option.


Space requirement

The unit can be orientated in several directions. However, the unit must be placed in such a way that doors are not blocked. Also, there must be adequate space for maintenance.

 A 0,8*0,8 m2 floor space for the cooling unit must also be provided. When using the freezing option the freezer is replacing the cooling unit with 0.8*0,6 m2 floor space.
